There’s a channel on YouTube called Rose Anvil, the owner does hiking/work boot reviews, cuts boots in half lengthwise to show construction methods; calls bullshit when he sees it.

And here’s one that shows a well-worn pair of Timberlands being restored. This video might actually discourage you from buying Timberlands, since he implies that cemented/glued soles will invariably fail, but such is not the case, or Timberland would have long ago stopped selling them. The owner of these boots wore them for construction sites daily and that is rough use, especially if you don’t take basic care of the leather:
