Re: holding pants up. Suspenders? I’ve gone through periods in the past of wearing suspenders, and they are extremely comfortable and hold up pants well, especially loose-fitting pants. They only look good with standard button shirts, however; if you use suspenders with a t-shirt you end up looking stupid. The ones with the clips that clip onto trouser waistbands will eventually tear holes in the trousers where they clip on. Few trousers come with suspender buttons for the button-down style of suspenders, so you’d have to either break out your sewing kit or visit a seamstress. Both dressy suspenders and outdoorsmen’s suspenders are available; one can even buy leather suspenders at places like Etsy.
Re: bread. Buying a loaf of store-bought sourdough will be a good scientific test, and is a good thought. If you simply can’t abide the taste of sourdough any longer, you can still experiment with other bread types: rye, barley, pumpernickel, einkorn. There’s hundreds of bread types to experiment with.
