Hello, World!

Folks who know me from podcasting might not know that I’m a teacher. Listeners who know me from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper might not know about Tales from the Lammas Wood. Some of you may know me as a teacher or as an expert in web accessibility or … well, you get the idea.

Hello, World. Glad you stopped by to see what’s happening here.

  1. I am in love with the Solar Clipper Tales and am always disappointed when I get to the end of the last one and find the next is not available yet.

Just to let you know I will be reading your work (over and over) as long as you are writing.

    Thanks.

  2. Sadly and regrettably , I’ve Just finished listening to all 6 books of “Trader Tales”.
As I approached the final chapters, I found myself more and more reluctant to listen to more than one episode per day in a vain attempt to prolong my enjoyment of the series.

Well done indeed, and thank you so much for such a warm and fantastic story so well told.

If ever there was an industry in dire need of having the “scrubber filters” changed out, it’s this sad world of so called “reality entertainment”.
I will never understand how the humiliation of fellow human beings, has become mainstream entertainment.

“Trader Tales” is an absolute breath of clean, fresh air.
Congratulations on creating such moving, uplifting and inspirational characters within a buoyant and sanguine story line.

At one point, (book 2) I suspected you might be a fellow Canadian, what with the “Newfoundland jig” and the oft used “eh”.
Made me feel right at home, eh.

If possible, please add my name to the list of available “quarter share crew” next time Captain Wong sets sails.

    Many, many Thanks,

    Dave S

  3. Hello Mr.lowell,
I just finished the last book Captains share again.
Miss it already. I am not religious but I have faith.
Found a lot of that here.
    Thanks for the adventure.
I will be looking for the next one.

    1. Thanks, Leonard. It’s coming.

And thank you, JaneKat. Many people find the coffee bits to be tedious and unimportant. For the most part, those are people who’ve never been locked in a tin can for months at a time and don’t realize what good coffee means to life in that circumstance. Food’s a great metaphor and I use it a lot 🙂

      1. The coffee bit reminded me of a story often told by my uncle. He managed to talk himself on board a US navy escorted vessel during WWII as a cook. Unfortunately he couldn’t boil water. My grandmother received a frantic request for recipes that could be adapted for shipboard use before the crew fed HIM to the sharks. I don’t think he was joking about the shark bit…

Thank you for writing a great story that brings back such fond memories of an uncle that was very special to me. I still miss him very much.

      2. Nathan
I for one found the coffee bits to be a valued part of the story.
Funny thing it that as I make my coffee to take to work I think back to the various scenes in the trader tails!

      3. Nathan,

I found the coffee bits, and other details in the series to paint a very good mindset of how to live well with others. ( I have since bought a proper burr grinder and use only filtered cold water. The pot is also kept clean. (-: )

The Trader Tales show a wonderful insight in how to live purposefully with a concern for those around you.

The details concerning the work on board the ships gave a reality to what it would seem to be like in space.

Thank you for continuing until you completed the series. It was a wonderful journey.

  4. Hi Nathan
I just finished your Trader tales series. Absolutely engrossing! what had me hooked from the beginning was the coffee. and have just finished Ravenwood and enjoyed it thoroughly. i noticed each time i’d listen to your stories, i’d find myself craving for a good brew of coffee with omelettes, or tea with some artisan bread and cheese 🙂 your stories have not only been literary mindscapes, but also a culinery delight 🙂

  5. Hey nathan great work, just finished listening to Trader Tales saved my sanity, I drive super dump trucks 12 hours a day and the podcasts are life savers, also loved your work in down from ten great stuff, keep up the great work need more LOL save me thanks.

  6. Finished 1/4 share, 1/2 share, full share and now reading Double share. Hope Captain’s share is available soon. I’m still attached to books I can hold in my hand and as a science fan for more then a half century I have found this a wonderful change of pace, Great to find an SF series about the excitement, boredom, and search for hobbies while traveling long distances. Ish is one of the best SF characters I have ever found so well developed.

  7. I have enjoyed the Traders tales so much I have shared them with everyone I have conversations with about great stories. I have listened to all 6 three times now. I hope you come out with the other stories you mentioned you wanted to write in this world soon.

  8. Hi Nathan
I have to say you captured me with the first book of yours i read on “kindle” i had all your kindle books within two days. i was lucky enough to find your pod casts while surching the net and was able to to hear up to “owners share”, i found myself frustrated then desperate for more so i read your other two lines 🙂 your style is as captivateing weather in a storm at sea or collecting herbs as it is in open space.
please go to a mainstream publisher and wright, wright, wright :). my mind can see several exspations for all your series. again your captured reader wishing for more for i am addicted.

    1. Thanks, Robert.

I won’t be getting to a mainstream publisher any time soon.

      1. I can’t afford to take the financial hit that publishing with one of the big houses would incur.

      2. I don’t want you to wait for years between books. That’s why I’ve taken my rights back and will be publishing on my own from now on.

Stay tuned. There’s a lot more coming.
