June Bug

So, yeah.

May was a month of changes and I’m looking forward to having that all behind me.

The eye surgeries were largely without incident. My vision is spectacularly delightful as the greens and blues of summer spread across the Front Range here. I can see … and more importantly … I’m feeling invigorated.

The contract story took a setback. The 20,000 words I’d turned over for comment proved to be missing some key elements. Unfortunately that means, “Back to square one.” Still, if I can get my butt in the chair and fingers on the keys with the word processor going, it shouldn’t take too long to hammer out a revision. I’ll be able to use most of it — it’ll just need some re-arranging and a new plot arc. I *think* I know where to go next…

And unfortunately, until I get this story done, I can’t work on my own books. I’m already in default on this contract and it would be adding insult to injury to NOT spend every productive moment I can on it. There are few enough productive moments.

Here’s to a more productive June.

  1. Do you still have plans to do an audioversion of Zypheria’s Call? Unfortunately I don’t get too much time to read so I tend to do it while walking/driving. I would be more than willing to pay for it 🙂 I should have donated more on audiobooks….

    1. Yes! I’ll never give up the podcast versions.

Once I get everything caught up, I’ll be producing a single work through development, audio, and print before moving on. No more of these books in one format or another but not all. It’s making me nuts 🙂

      Well…nuts-er.

  2. Nathan,

I have loved the solar clipper series thus far. I can’t wait until Captain share comes out. Unfortunately, with my eyes, I can’t read it in print 🙁

No pressure there, Just a bit of encouragement, I Eagerly await your next addition to the solar clipper series :-).

  3. Greetings. Wonder if you could please answer a question during your morning walk?
I have been listening for a few months, therefore know Gredok is not your cup of tea.
But I missed how the deal to do the story came about in the first place! Since it is the
reason your own new stories are being bottled up, could you explain how it came about?
Hope your latest idea on how to make him the evil being he needs to be does the trick.
Had to reread my Solar Clipper books, and listen to the last 2 on podcasts again. The
Solar Clipper books fill my favorite niche in science fiction. I realize you won’t be
working on new ones along those lines exclusively. But I’d like to cheer you on. Stories
of that quality and taste are hard to come by.

    1. @Shauna – almost two years ago now, Scott Sigler started a project where he invited selected authors to contribute to the GFL universe by writing backstory novellas. He asked me to write an important one – the story of Gredok the Splithead. We signed contracts in 2011 but I didn’t get the story bible until last fall and we’ve been passing notes back and forth ever since.

When I signed up for this, I had no idea it would a) take so long to get going or b) I’d have so many medical issues of my own.

      Tedious but there it is.

      1. Thank you for both your answers, you are very kind.
Writing about a sociopathic alien, for YA?, doesn’t sound easy.
But keeping your commitment earns my respect. Meanwhile,
waiting patiently, and listening from Florida.

  4. I must commend your devotion, no, overwhelming devotion to your fans. To be going blind and still devote precious vision time to us… there isn’t praise high enough. I was devastated when I lost my hearing and again use of right hand and arm but I can not imagine how terrifying it would be to lose my remaining vision. YOU ARE A VERY BRAVE AND CORAGEOUS MAN. The stuff heroes are made of. You give countless others the will to go on with their own lives. I will praise you as long as my 2 fingers can type. Thank you for the courage,
I remain a devoted fan of YOU and your works
