October Fest

Well, shoot.

I hoped to have Owner’s Share ready to go today but it’s not there yet. I’ve got edits back on the first 500 pages of manuscript – that’s 2/3rds of it – but we’re still waiting on the last third. When I get it, we’ll publish the ebook as soon as possible on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and iBook. The Apple store will lag behind by at least two weeks and probably more like four because they take forever to process stuff there.

And let me say thank you, again, to both of you who’ve purchased books on the iBook store.

Paperbacks are in process. Quarter Share is out and linked in on Amazon – finally. Half Share is on my desk and I work on marking that up while waiting for the remaining edits. It’s stupidly slow going but I can’t seem to hurry that work.

Audio work for Zypheria’s Call is hung up because there’s been too much noise around here of late. Between sump pumps, heavy equipment in the street, and just general family noise, I’m backed up on a lot of audio. ZC is only one of many pieces I need to move. I’m hoping that I’m going to be able to clear all that out by the end of October. I recognize that “hoping” isn’t “doing” but we’ll start small.

South Coast is next in line after Owner’s Share. Once that’s out – and the audio work for Zypheria’s Call is done – I can start pushing on new works.

I was going to wait until paperbacks were all in order before starting but I just can’t wait that long. If I don’t start pumping out some new work soon, I’m going to quit altogether. Grinding through this old stuff is sapping my will to live. All you people who are jonesing for paper, sorry. I’ll get it as soon as I can but my sanity requires me to do something besides grinding backlist.

I may have to co-opt NaNoWriMo and push a book out there just to get my head screwed back on. If so, I’ll apologize in advance for the delays that protect my sanity. 🙂

New works on the schedule
Book 3 of Tanyth Fairport Adventures: The Hermit of Lammas Wood. (This year if I can get my butt in gear)
Book 2 of Shaman Tales: Cape Grace (This year if I can get my butt in gear)
Three new books from the Golden Age that feature Ishmael (2014)
Three new books from the Golden Age that do not feature Ishmael (2014)

I think that’s about it for now. If you have a question that I haven’t answered, leave it in the comments and I’ll address it.

  1. Don’t burnout! Do the creative new stuff you need to. The backlist can be done as you get time.

      1. I’m putting on my flame-proof ball cap and asbestos undies.

The least I can do to protect myself and others 🙂

  2. Sounds awesome Nathan. I can’t wait to hear some new audio, but we can wait for whatever it takes for you to get your head on straight and not want to quit writing. I speak for all of us when I say whatever it takes to keep you writing! I look forward to reading all your future works. Thanks for the update and sorry you’ve had to slog through so much for so long. Safe voyage to 2014 Sar. It will be a great year to be your fan.

    1. Thanks, crew.

I’m taking care for the long term. Just want to make sure everybody understands what course I’m steering … even as I make adjustments as we go.

  3. At first I said “2014!?!?” Then I realized it is already October! 2014 is gunna be a great year to read books! Thanks Captain. Keep on writting.

  4. Just wanting you to know I can be patient, just re listening to the audio, rereading ebooks and catching up on two years of tommw – hope life treats you well so you can binge soon. We will all benefit from that Sar!

  5. Might want to cross post this to SolarClipper.com. I’ve been checking there all month for updates. Really looking forward to Owner’s Share!

  6. Nathan,

Hardback, Paperback, Audio, Sanskrit in clay tablets, just get the new stuff moving as soon as you can. I didn’t think I could wear out a podcast, but I now have serious worries about the bits that compose my Trader’s Tales and Tanyth Fairport collections.

  7. Looking forward to reading many more of your works. Thanks for all the great reads so far.

  8. If NaNoWriMo is what you need to get back on the creative path, please do so!!! I’ve enjoyed your prior NaNoWriMo works, so don’t see why it wouldn’t be a good idea. I’m waiting for hardbacks, but am willing to wait several years to get those copies (signed I hope), especially if you produce new content in it’s place.

  9. Personally, I prefer you to prioritise new work. Maybe you could work out a system where you do one hour of grinding on the new stuff for every two hours of writing new stuff.

    1. David, I’m thinking we’ll be moving toward that model soon. I have to get the Share series out in ebook form ASAP. When that’s completed — and everybody hates me for the ending — then I’ll be moving back to new stuff balanced with old.

Thanks, Raygan. My immediate location is pretty much back to normal but there are still a lot of people in dire straits.

      1. Not everyone hates you for the ending. I was initially shocked by the ending but after awhile I could accept it and move on. It a way it connected the start of the series to the end. If it had ended with everyone happy and calm there would probably be no future stories that weren’t just boring.

Looking forward to any new work. Especially audio since that is where I started following you.

        Good luck

          1. That sounds… ominous.

Looking forward to Ishmael’s trials tribulations, joys and sorrows.

  10. I really enjoy your books…the ebooks and the audio versions. I like the situational plots (as opposed to evil vs good) and the caring characters. I like it that you read your own work…you obviously know how you mean for the dialog to be spoken. I like it that education is seen as the way to advance and so many of your characters are constantly working to advance themselves. Thank you so much for the work that you do.

  11. Sir, I really appreciate your works. I’ve had a number of issues with my left foot over the last seven months. Listening to your pdcasts and reading the books helps dustract from the pain.

I hope all the rain and flooding damage is repaired quickly, so that you can get back to your work. I know all your fans are looking forward to seeing/hearing them.

    Christine

  12. That’s great news. I had Quarter share in the shelf for quite a while, but a month ago started reading it, and now I’m finishing Captain’s share. I went to amazon looking for Owner’s share but it wasn’t there. Good to hear it will be released soon 😀

I look forward to reading all those new books you’re planning to write, I can’t get enough of them!.

  13. I hope you’re proud of all you’ve accomplished in the past year, particularly given the health challenges. It’s always tough to balance the needful with the fun. Sounds to me like you’ve had too much of the former and not enough of the latter! Selfishly, I hope you put nurturing that creative spark first.

    1. Thanks, Bob. I am quite pleased with what I’ve done. I always wish I could/would have done more. 🙂

  14. As much as my wife and I want Tanyth #3 (we read the last one together aloud to each other), we’ll wait for your sanity first.

    1. Sanity may be over rated … and I’m coming to appreciate that it may only be acquired through Lammas Wood 🙂

  15. Nathan:

Ever thought about doing a TIC story. Deep dark law enforcement story. I just find the TIC interesting.

(Although I have a feeling that maybe, just maybe, Ish, TIC, and a certain fugitive will cross paths once again 😉 )

    Thanks,

    Frankie

  16. Having gone through all the Share books or podcasts twice, I have had a lot of time to think about the stories. Please disregard any negativity about the ending. You should exalt. There are many books; what you have accomplished is fine literature. Readers will ponder, then get it. What fun!
Thankfully, the Captain gets to run the ship, and he’s done a great job so far. Hence the outcry for more. The back seat critics drive me crazy. If they are so brilliant, they should write their own books. Meanwhile, hope you get the space & time you need. Time to turn on that special light on your desk.

  17. Nathan,

I can’t say enough how great you books have been (I’ve read all of the Solar Clipper and the Ravenswood series). I think they are every bit as good as all of the Asimov, Arthur C Clarke, and other ‘masters’ of scifi!

  18. MMM,

I’d stick with Writer, Storyteller, and Coffee Coinsure Extraordinaire! 🙂

You seem to be doing well.

  19. Hi glad to hear you will be finished soon on the old stuff. could I ask why you feel finding true love is the end of the journey , most husbands and wife businesses work well together expanding what they have exploring new areas etc.
yes I’m an Ismael fan 🙂 looking forward to more storys
