Valentine’s Update

Yeah, I know it was a couple of days ago. I’m running a little late.

Things are finally moving forward after the great time I had at COSine in Colorado Springs at the end of January.

All the Share books and all the Tanyth Fairport books are now available in paperback. It was a long slog and I only just finished them before COSine. One task down and the new one’s just beginning.

I’m about 10k words into Cape Grace. Some of you will be cheering for the long promised sequel so South Coast while others will be cursing me for not writing the book you want.

My next book after Cape Grace will be the first of the new Ishmael Wang books. Don’t expect it before late spring or early summer. There’s a long road between now and then and I need to traverse it carefully.

Healthwise, I have up days and down days. We’re getting a handle on the down and working to have more up. Like most lives, mine is still a work in progress. I’m grateful for all of you who share it with me.

  1. Glad to hear that things are improving for you!

Please keep writing as I along with countless others love your work and there is nothing in your published works that I have not read or listened to numerous times. This is unusual as I rarely read a book twice!

I look forward to you having more good days and being able to read anything that you have the time to write.

Best Wishes and I hope your year goes from strength to strength.

  2. Glad to hear things are improving! I definitely need to pick up the last two Tanyth Fairport novels. I look forward to the new book and that your health continues to improve!

  3. Great News Captain! I for one am very glad to hear that Cape Grace is up next. As much as I love the Ish story line, I really want to finish up with the St. Cloud story. Really glad you got the backlog done as well, and are finally able to move ahead.

  4. I am so glad to hear you say you are carrying on Captain Wang’s future. I have read through the solar clipper series many times (it never gets old) and when I finish Owners Share I am always wanting more. The thoughts and feelings you put in to Ishmaels character and those around him are what I feel we should strive for every day. I look forward to the next part of Captain Wang’s story.

  5. No matter how hard you try, someone is going to be unhappy. Dont waste time worrying about trying to make everyone happy. Just keep on heading forward. You are doing great! So dont let anyone drag you back.

  6. Thrilled for Cape Grace. Looking forward to more wonderful stories in the Solar Clipperverse. Bless you, Captain.

  7. First I love your stories and can’t wait to read more. I have always wanted to see one of those fabled Marines involved with Ishmael. This is probably because I was a Marine. I can’t wait to see where Ishmael goes from where he left off. It doesn’t matter how many times I go through owners share I still feel slightly depressed. I like to listen while at work and have probably done so more then a dozen times. Sorry for the long winded comment, but have you ever thought how awesome this would be as a television series? Anyway sorry for the rant and I wish you much luck and many more books.

  8. Its good to hear news of your progress. I’m currently listening to Double share (for about the dozenth time) and eagerly await any new works from you. I’ve managed to introduce quite a few people to Ish and they have all become avid enthusiasts.

I too hope your good days far exceed yr bad ones.

    All the best

  9. I do want you to have more up days than down. I am a new reader of yours. It started with reading Quarter Share in the Stars & Empire set. I had to get Half Share after that and immediately had to get the rest including a stand alone copy of Quarter Share.

I am glad you are going to continue on with Ish. Here are a couple of my ideas.

Instead of selling his ship, he lease it to Ms Maloney (not DST) with the provision that he has a say in who captians it. Maybe Pip or someone in his family (Ish knows Pip can pick cargo that will make money).

He continues in contact with Ms Maloney and ends up building a relationship with her (I thought he was going to end up in one while reading Owners Share)

He Works a freighter for a while until he can face his ship again. Maybe after that get another ship of the same model and make what he started the business model that he and Ms Maloney continues on with. Nothing says that Ms. Maloney can only be part of DST and that business model would not conflict with that of DST.

  10. I love the Solar Clipper series and the Tanyth Fairport series. I am excited to hear about more Ishmael Wang books but would also love to read other books set in the Solar Clipper universe.
    Take Care

  11. I for one like all of your books. While I love the share storys I find all the others entertaining!
Please write what your muse demands! I will happily read them.

    Thanks
    Mel W.

  12. When you get to the next Ishmael Horatio Wang book, I would really love to see Ishmael and old trading buddy Pip (Phillip Carstairs) reunited. Perhaps they could go together as joint owners of a trading vessel ?

  13. Captain,
Something in one of your blogs stirred some memories so over the past six days, I reread all six Shares. For some unknown reason today I went out and bought two packages of the best coffee beans I could find 😉 . Strange. At any rate I realized just how much I had missed Ishmael Wang and how much I look forward to catching up with his latest adventures. Just wanted to share.

  14. I’ve been very impressed by your work; the gift of making characters human and lovable is a rare one. Please do keep writing, I promise to keep reading!

Seriously, it is a gift that you have and a curse; others think it is easy to tell a tale and criticize those who do. Heinlein’s work was notable not only for the tales he told but for the characters we believed in. Yours is much the same. I’ve noted the little tidbits to the classics you have sprinkled throughout your work and I must say that I heartily approve. In science and in literature as in all of mankind’s great endeavours we do “Stand on the shoulders of giants.” It is meet and fit to pay homage to these giants within our own effrots to reach for a higher plane of understanding and compassion. Please continue this, it is a wonderful thing and one well worth remembering!

    Sincerely,

    Grover Larkins

  15. After reading Quarter Share I was glad to find out there were 6 books in the series and I wouldn’t have to wait until one another was written. I have been reading ScF for over 60 years and have read almost all the masters in the field. I have enjoyed this series and have only found one fault with your writing, they have a tendency to interfere with my bedtime. After finishing Owner Share I was dissatisfied because it left too much action on the table, then I discovered you have 3 more planned. Now, how long do I have to wait on those?

  16. Loving your Ish books and your reading voice.
I am currently up to Captain’s Share, which today I discovered is the ideal companion for listening to on my iPhone as I did some hill walking to get my health back.
Walked for miles and am now quite sore!

I loved Robert Heinlein in my youth and listening to you reminds me of the joy I received.

Will donate once I have discovered how to, PayPal hopefully.

    Many thanks
