I’m Late

On pretty much everything, it seems.

I haven’t any new news. I’ve made zero progress this year so far.

I’m still reading a lot. That seems like it matters even when I haven’t been able to focus on anything else.

What I Am I Reading?

The last book was E. M. Foner’s Con Living, EarthCent Universe Book 3.

I found it pretty engaging, humorous in the right places. I first started reading Foner’s work with Date Night at Union Station. This series is set in the same universe as an independent spaceship tries to earn their way back into the good graces of the Powers-That-Be by hosting all manner of human endeavors to attract new inhabitants to the vessel.

Hijinks – as they say – ensue.

Maybe grab a sample. See what you think.

Final Words

I have to confess. I kept thinking I’d actually get something done that I could write about this month. I never did. I’ve had a couple of people ask if I’m all right. I’m not sick, not in the hospital. Nothing like that.

Just struggling.

I have not given up. I know what I have to do to work through this. Mostly I have to be honest about it and Do The Things That Help.

Which includes ‘fessing up when things aren’t happening the way we all want them do.

Maybe next month.

Safe Voyage.

  1. Life seems to be more a sine wave than a climb only upward. A nice gentle sine wave is what I prefer. Do Be Do Be Do…

  2. Any news on Tanyth Audio?
Seems like you could capitalise on stuff you’ve already written.
I love listening audio books, having someone read me a story like when I was a child is incredibly relaxing, and helps me sleep. I’m too lazy and time poor to actually read the books.
I listened to your narration of ravenwood because I enjoyed all your other writing (I find it some of the most relaxing literature). I really enjoyed it despite it not being a genre or synopsis I would have expected to enjoy. I’d happily spend my audible credits on more of the same!

  3. Sometime I struggle to, I guess everyone does at sometime. A good trick that gets me going in the right direction is getting myself in the mindset of what would Ishmael do. It helps somtime

  4. I have taken your words to heart and have been reading rather than forcing myself to produce. Have you looked at Daniel Schinhofen’s books? Several interesting series.

  5. The fact that you’ve produced 19+ books indicates that you “have it in you.” Relax. It’ll come when it comes. A muse is to be nurtured, not flogged.

  6. I think reading a lot is still doing something. The creative battery needs a recharge.

Don’t beat yourself up for not doing what you wanted to in January. Sometimes our brains decide what they want to do no matter how hard we try to convince them otherwise. This is something I’m coming to terms with myself because of my ADHD.

Anyway, hang in there. The creative battery will start outputting again soon.

  7. Just wanted to say thanks for your wonderful stories. When you finish your navel gazing we’ll be here to read your next story. We all need time to navel gaze sometimes. Maybe you need your own Mal Gaines? How did you feel when….don’t answer…just let yourself feel that moment…

  8. I would have to agree with Liz above about the Tanyth Fairport audios. It involves no writing just uploading.

I listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I work and the Tanyth Fairport books I own and have read would be wonderful if I could get the audio versions to listen to while I work. I understand writers block but please if you could upload the rest of the Tanyth Fairport so we may have it

  9. “Zypheria’s Call” has entered Quality Control

It’s a long, drawn out process, but it’s in the pipeline as of a few minutes ago.

      1. It took a couple of days of background work to get the images, text, and files uploaded with their correct meta data. Then Findaway Voices deals with checking them for correct format and layout before sending them down the distribution chains.

If all goes well, Zypheria’s Call should appear in various store fronts within the next six week. Some will be sooner. Audible will be dead-last – about 4-6 weeks from now.

        I’m working on Hermit now.

        1. Thank you for all your hard work. I was under the misunderstanding that everything was done just need to upload it. Again I am sorry for give you crap.

If there is some eMail list for when and where the Tanyth Fairport audios are released for sell, I would be honored to be placed on that list.

If I may say before I leave you.
My the Hermit of Lammas Wood bless!
“I call upon the Guardian of the North, Keeper of the Stone, Bones of the Earth, to aid and protect you this day.

I call on the Guardian of the East, Keeper of Wind, Breath of the Earth, to give her the gift of the winds that bring you the freshness to help sustain you in the days to come.

I call on the Guardian of the South, Keeper of Fire, Soul of the Earth, to keep her passion alive in your heart.

I call on the Guardian of the West, Keeper of Water, Blood of the Earth, to bath you in the waters of renewal, that your sense of wonder might never leave you.

In the name of the All-Mother, Keeper of Life, Sower of Seed, and in the name of the All-Father, Keeper of Void, Gatherer of Fruit, I ask, guard and protect, nurture and support you in all your days.”
If you feel I crossed a line and reproach you touching words, “Please remove this message and know that I will be sorry, but I could not resist.” ^_^
          Michael

          1. It must have worked … 🙂

Zypheria’s Call has cleared the first hurdles. We’re just waiting for it to clear to the various storefronts.

I’ve got The Hermit cover done and will get the ISBN’s shortly, then upload the files for QA review before end of day today.

There is a mailing list but even I don’t know when the books will be available on any of the 40ish sites that Findaway distributes to.

  10. Hi, and take your time Captain !
I’m quite stuck between reads right now (and only manage to read “happy” ones, nothing too brutal for now). And I must say I’ve been following your recommendations for a few months and enjoy them greatly. In turn, I’d like to point out a series that you possibly could enjoy. It’s “The phoenix feather” by Sherwood Smith. (“martial arts fantasy”)

  11. Believe I have now read everything Mr. Lowell has published, I first happened on your Quarter Share, and etc. stories. With that I was off, scouring for everything you write. And it is such a delight and it isn’t military sci fi. As a non-recovering bookaholic, I need my fix.

Please, Mr. Lowell, scratch around in your bin of notes and ideas, and old scribbles where one is confident inspiration for yet another story lies awaiting elaboration.

As Humpty Dumpty enunciated ‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.” Mais oui?

  12. First time commenter, long time reader… I believe in you. Know that you have brought me many hours of happiness and that I am pulling for you to succeeding whatever makes you happy in return.

  13. Hang in there! I’m glad you’ve been through this often enough that you know what you have to do in terms of (I’m assuming) self care.

    1. Thanks.

It’s the difference between “knowing” and “doing” that keeps tripping me up. 😀

  14. Thinking of you for sure! I had a heart attack and open heart surgery about a month ago, so at this point I can do very little other than just focus on each day and what I can gain. You encouraged me through your writings to go ahead and document my personal journey trough this, I am doing so, maybe throw it on ama zon one day who knows.. If nothing lese it has helped me comes to terms with what is a life altering event.

  15. I’ve enjoyed all of the Ishmael Wang stories. The characters will tell you their stories when they are ready, and that timetable can sometimes be very frustrating. All the best to you on your ongoing voyage.

  16. If like me you are looking for the release of the audiobook Zypheria’s Call I have found it for a pre-order on Apple Books in the USA store to be released 2/28

I bet it will be Available at other places as well but since I personally use Apple books then there you go

  17. I am a recent convert to your writing- having seen MANY people recommend your Wizard’s Butler, I have been absolutely delighted to run through your back catalog. Your work is just what I look for in character driven story arcs- thank you.

As someone who also struggles to Do What Needs to Be Done, for whatever value you may assign to it, this visitor is cheering you on from the sidelines.

  18. I hope you’re doing well I just cleared a year long depression so I know what zero progress looks like and feels like.

If you haven’t tried them, I recommend Sara King’s Zero series. Light, fun.

    With you in spirit,

    Bruce

  19. I’m doing my 3rd or 4th readthrough of the solar clipper series right now, I still love them as much as I did before, so thank you for all the time, they have really helped me recenter and get a better outlook on life so many times already, Really looking forward to Ish’ story going forward, but don’t stress yourself out 🙂 Keep on trucking, and remember, trust Lois 🙂

  20. Your books are worth the wait. I’d rather wait while you recover than wait forever because you burned out.

  21. Packing my bags for flights to return on the Solar Clipper. Hope you haven’t moved on permanently.
