Dog Days

The phrase comes from the ancient Romans who believed that the sun rising with the brightest (hottest) star Sirius in Canis Major caused the summer heat. Has nothing to do with lounging around panting in the shade – other than it’s a pretty good thing to do here in the northern hemisphere.

South of the equator, not so much.

Status

Salt – Book 1 of the Barbarians
This should drop this month. I’m the hold up and I’m not proud of it.

New Ishmael
There’s a lot of stuff there that I need to sort out. I’m liking what I’m seeing. I’m not looking forward to unraveling that monster but somebody has to.

The Wizard’s Cat
It’s on the word processing machine. It’s twitching a little.

Audio

Ravenwood is available as an audio book. You can get it almost anywhere you can buy audiobooks – like Audible. I have the other two books done and will be uploading them over the next few weeks. Veronica Giguere did a great job bringing Tanyth to life.

What Am I Reading?

I’m participating in a reading challenge with The Royal Manticoran Navy so I’m reading a lot. Twenty-seven books in the month of July. Not quite one a day. The challenge runs through mid September but I’m going to have to limit my reading time if I want to get anything written between now and then.

I’ve had some stand out titles, and some surprises. One of them was from a new author – Judith Moffitt – and her series The Coup.

This is old school space opera and it sizzles. Yes, there’s a war. Yes, there’s politics and romance and tragedy and – well – everything. The characters pulled me into this universe and wouldn’t let me out for about three days. I was sad when I got to the end.

Why not grab a sample and see what you think about book 1 – A Line in the Sand.

Looking Ahead

August needs to be a “work month” where the last couple have been more of a “refilling the well” period. The reading has invigorated me. I’m beginning to get more regular in my walking. I’m feeling good about the stories I have in the pipeline and the work that’s hovering just out of sight.

I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you as the wheel of the year cycles out of summer and into autumn and winter.

Safe voyage.

  1. fyi – it looks like Audible has fixed the Ravenwood download file so the chapters are in the correct order

  2. Just finished probably my sixth or seventh read-through of the current Ishmael series, and could not stop myself from checking on the progress of the next ones(Absolutely cannot wait!). These books are probably my own personal Newmar studio, and have helped balance me at times I needed them.

Also, Royal Manticoran Navy? Reference to the Honor Harrington series? I knew I liked you.

  3. Just finished the audiobook version of Ravenwood. At first, I was a bit unsure about the narrator, but by the end of the second or third chapter she just felt “right” and I quite enjoyed her narration and my re-read. Can’t wait for the other two to be available on Audible!

Thanks for sticking with it to get these done. I know there have been some challenges.

  4. My introduction to your work was your audio reading of “Ravenwood,” years ago. Your books are a treasure, and I often read from them at the end of the day. Thank you.

  5. Thank you so much for recommending my work. The entirely trilogy is done now. And I have one fantasy out as well. It was such a learning experience. I am so happy you enjoyed my book. Having one of your favorite authors read your work and like it was just such a high for me. I was wondering if you mind if I put these lovely words on my Amazon pages for the books of the trilogy?

    1. I can post them here but posting them on Amazon/Goodreads works against you because I’m a fellow author in the same niche.

You never want your fellow authors to leave reviews there. It can lead to algorithmic issues that can be beastly difficult to unravel.

What your fellow word herders can do – recommending your books directly to their audiences – is much more valuable. 😀

      1. I didn’t mean for you to write a review, but more to use the quote in my blurb. Like you see the traditional publishers do. But I certainly don’t want to mess up the algorithm. Can I use the quote on other social media then? But this made my whole day when I saw it. Thank you again.

I did enjoy Salt. Looking forward to the next in that series. And the next Butler book and the next Sar book and anything new you want to write.

  6. Accumulating e-books for use when we go on our trip (long plane rides require entertainment, as do long train rides.) Salt is at the top of the queue. Too much to ask for perhaps another one dropping in the next month or so. pretty please?

  7. Fwiw, I finally worked my way round to “The Wizard’s Cat” on audio, and am really enjoying it. Thanks!

    1. Where did you find the audio of “The Wizard’s Cat” I can’t find it on Audible? Thanks

      1. I’m pretty sure he means The Wizard’s Butler.

I haven’t finished writing the Cat yet.
